| Creation of a new fishing enterprise Vostok-1 became possible through radical changes that took place in the country in the early 1990-s.
Russia underwent a drastic change at that time . Everything was seething, the old was crashing down, and the new was emerging. Life itself offered active people and talented managers
an opportunity to take advantage of the favorable situation. A new market and relevant inter-relations were coming into being.
On the government's initiative, just in front of one's eyes, the centrally plann
ed socialist economy collapsed, the rigid vertical of power was broken. President himself declared freedom in all spheres of life, “Take as much self-government as you can.”
Russia has always been rich in gifted people, ready for independent business activity. At that extraordinary in all respects time talented people approved themselves to the full extent. Fishing Kolkhoz Vostok-1 appeared through an opportunity, without any limitations of the socialist system, to demonstrate high professionalism, managerial skills, ability to unify people not on a basis of slogans, but on a basis of everyone's interest in the work result, material incentive above all, dependence of everyone's work result on the results of the business.
In 1991, despite absence of a legal basis, we were aware that new time had come, new opportunities had emerged. We could not only think, but, what is more important, also make decisions and lead business on our own in order to realize our professional and managerial potential.
The next year of 1992 proved very unlucky for fishermen of the Far East . The socialist bank system was in a severe crisis. Vnesheconombank went bankrupt. All foreign currency deposits were frozen, while fishing companies purchased equipment, provision and fuel abroad for that money. The branch-wise science suffered want, too. Ministry of Fishery virtually stopped financing of scientific expeditions and research. However, the newborn Kolkhoz overcame the difficulties with honor and could help its partner TINRO by financing wages for the institute's two-thousand staff from April to October 1992.
In 1992 management of Vostok-1, using simple but efficient methods, taking into account chartered vessels crews' interest in the common result, organized fishing expeditions for fresh roed Alaska pollock, cod, live and frozen crab, live urchin throughout the year, and earned considerable financial resources.
Vostok-1 settled payments to all chartered vessels fully and in time. On the whole, in 1992 there were chartered 49 Russian ships and 8 foreign motherships to provide expeditions and the Kolkhoz's year program.
Again, the human factor played a decisive role here. Specialists could fulfill themselves professionally without a backward glance and demonstrated a true creative initiative. No doubt, fair-dealing with partners also brought its result. To keep its word is the credo of Vostok-1. All this has become a firm foundation of the new enterprise's future success.
Modern fleet has always been a basis of any fishing company's success. This is why the Kolkhoz pursued obtaining of such a fleet |
